Overview

At Hawaii Pacific Health, the health and safety of our patients, visitors, care providers and staff is our top priority. With confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) now identified in Hawaii, we know that everyone is concerned about the potential for wider spread of the illness in our community. We are taking steps to reduce the risk and keep you, our patients, visitors and staff safe.

Revised Visitor Policy

Effective Saturday, March 21, we have revised our visitor policy for our medical centers. We will reduce the number of visitors as follows:

  • Pediatric patients – One adult visitor will be allowed at patient’s bedside.
  • Obstetric patients – One adult visitor will be allowed at patient’s bedside. This applies to patients being assessed for labor, admitted in labor or for elective or C-section delivery, or postpartum.
  • All other adult patients – No visitors allowed at this time.

COVID-19 Drive-Up Specimen Collection Sites

Hawaii Pacific Health medical centers are providing drive-up specimen collection for COVID-19, allowing more access for people to be tested in a safe environment that limits exposure to other patients and health care staff in the hospital setting. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily (subject to change based on demand).

Locations are:

Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
Located in the driveway off of Punahou Street (entrance is first right off of Bingham Street)

Pali Momi Medical Center
Located in the roundabout off of Moanalua Road

Straub Medical Center
Located in the parking lot of Straub Physical Therapy and Occupational Health building at 800 S. King Street.

Wilcox Medical Center
Located at the back side of the hospital under the large white tent

Patients will need a doctor’s order for the test, along with a valid form of identification and an insurance card.

A normal co-payment may apply since testing is handled by a private lab. Patients should check with their insurance provider for more information on any costs associated with the test. The lab will handle billing directly with patients, including those who do not have insurance.

Guidance for Patients with Clinic Appointments

If you are sick but have an appointment to see a doctor for something else, like a check-up, we will need to change your visit to when you are feeling better. Please call us so we can make a new appointment for you.

If you’d like us to check you because you are sick, call your primary care provider. You may be able to get checked by phone, or get advice through MyChart.

We are trying to follow the advice of the experts at the CDC and the Hawaii Department of Health who tell us that people who are mildly ill should stay home, unless they need help for that illness.

Precautions for Seniors

Seniors are at a greater risk for COVID-19, especially those who have underlying health conditions. The Hawaii Department of Health recommends that older adults and individuals with underlying health issues avoid non-essential travel, including cruises. Avoid large crowds, wash your hands, and keep medications and groceries on-hand.

Hawaii Pacific Health Preparedness

Hawaii Pacific Health facilities – Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Pali Momi Medical Center, and Straub Medical Center on Oahu, and Wilcox Medical Center and Kauai Medical Clinic on Kauai  have the capabilities and are prepared to care for patients with COVID-19. Our staff goes through regular training for reducing infection risks, which includes proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and protocols for isolating and caring for patients who present symptoms or test positive for these types of conditions. We are also in close contact with the Hawaii Department of Health regarding the current situation here in Hawaii and the latest infection control recommendations to follow in the event that a person potentially infected with COVID-19 comes to our medical centers or clinics.
